This week: KBooks Part 1!! A string of stores with any fandom thing you could ever want!

KBooks is a well-known store chain that sells mainly used anime and manga goods. Though the stores can be found across Japan, including Akihabara in Tokyo and Namba in Osaka, the Ikebukuro locations are particularly impressive.

The KBooks company has such a large collection of used merchandise in Ikebukuro that they actually have separate buildings for each type of merchandise.

This time we’ll cover three of the stores: the Anime-kan, Comic-kan, and Doujinshi-kan.

The KBooks Anime-kan contains used DVDs, CDs, PC games, and merchandise from tons of different anime series. Looking for UFO catcher dolls from a magical girl anime, or maybe a BL drama CD of your favorite manga? KBooks Anime-kan is a good place to start. You can get some good deals on hard-to-find items, including limited-edition DVDs and other merchandise that’s long been off the shelf.

The KBooks Comic-kan is the best place for used official manga and other published works. It has manga of all varieties, including an extensive BL selection, and anime magazines. Often you can get a good deal on complete series of manga, packaged up together. There’s also a section for published doujinshi anthologies, produced by both series and by author. If you’re interested in a sampling of fan works for a certain series or a prolific doujinshi artist, these anthologies are a great place to start.

And finally the KBooks Doujinshi-kan. Unlike Mandarake, the KBooks Doujinshi-kan is divided into two floors: the bottom floor reserved for new doujinshi titles and the upper floor a vast collection of previously-owned doujinshi, all organized by series, pairing, and author. This store combines the best features of the other popular doujinshi stores in Ikebukuro: a wide selection of frequently restocked new doujinshi and a good selection of quality older/used doujinshi. This store also buys back old doujinshi like Mandarake does, however, it’s a bit more selective of what doujinshi it will accept. This can be both a good and bad thing. Bad for people who want to sell of as much of their collection as possible, but good for those who want to purchase used doujinshi. You’re more likely to find good titles with minimal to no damage done to the book itself at KBooks than most other used stores.

As with all used stores, the types and stock of certain items is never guaranteed. However, there’s no better place to browse when out for a day of fandom shopping in Ikebukuro! Who knows? You might just find that DVD you’ve always wanted, or a vintage doujinshi from your favorite anime at KBooks.
